The idea of this extraordinary knife stand seems to have come to the designer Jörg Gätjens’ mind when playing „spillikins“. The principle of this knife stand is genially simple – two springs made of stainless steel hold together 900 wooden sticks; from the top the knives are put into this bunch. There are no rules where to put them exactly – just put them in and they will be safe and protected.
A plate made of high-quality synthetics represents the base, provides a secure stand and protects the surface from scratches.
The knife stand has a diameter of 12.5 cm and measures 25 cm in height. Just like the side-by-side tray “up”, the stand is produced in the Wendelstein Workshops in Rosenheim, where mentally disabled people have been finding a workplace for about 25 years now
The knife stand was created by Jörg Gätjens for the side-by-side project and was awarded the For Prize in 2002.
Products that are chosen for the special show "FORM - Form aus Handwerk und Industrie" at the international trade fair Tendence in Frankfort get the Form Design Prize. Designaward Form Design Prize
