The melodic tea sieve Tea Matter was designed by Alan Chan for Alessi in the year 2010. The real sieve is the bird inside of the cage. Below it, there are holes; thanks to its long shape, it can be hanged over a cup so that the body with the tea leaves hangs inside of the hot water.
If the sieve-bird is taken out of the cage, a melody furthermore comes out of the second small bird which is on the cage. Alessi manufactures Tea Matter out of glossy polished stainless steel and PMMA.
The Hong Kong born designer Alan Chan designed a product that is deeply anchored in Chinese tradition: the melodic tea sieve Tea Matter. The design refers to millenniums of ancient Chinese traditions of bringing birds in cages to tea ceremonies and to listen to their singing.
Alan Chan was born in the year 1950. It is one of the few in Hong Kong trained designers that achieved international recognition. He received more than 500 local and international design awards until today. Designer Alan Chan
