Iittala - Aalto Vase Miniature

Already in the year 1936 Alvar Aalto designed the famous vase for one Iittala organized competition. Today the objects with their characteristic wave-forms are deemed to be real classics. In honour to the 75th anniversary of the Alvar Aalto collection, Iittala presents the vase in a miniature variant.

The miniature of the Aalto vase is a timeless gift. Every 55 mm vase is mouth blown and handmade in the Iittala glass fabric where the Aalto products are manufactured since 1936. The showpiece of the miniature collection is the red Aalto mini vase (55 mm) that is available with an oak-wood cube. This variant is limited to 1000 pieces.

The inspiration for the organic, wavy form remains a mystery, but it often is related to the uncountable Finnish seas and the according, natural forms. Maybe Alvar Aalto, whose humour was well known, wanted to lure the people on a false trade as he sent his collection using the pseudonym “leather trousers of an Eskimo woman” to one of Iittala’s organized competitions in the year 1936.
