The Shanghay Chair was originally designed by KiBiSi for the Danish pavilion on the EXPO world exposition 2010 in Shanghay. There it was a segment of the “Social Bench” that surrounded the pavilion insides and outsides, of the architect and designer Jeppe Hein.
The Danish company Hay is responsible for the production of the chair today. The designers from KiBiSi bent several smaller boards around each other creating a surprisingly simple chair with the Shanghay Chair: it only consists of four parts that form the central and reduced to the essential elements of the chair with its legs, rest and back rest.
Because of its simple construction method, the Shanghay Chair can be disassembled and reassembled without any problems. This makes it possible to combine different colours to create a chair that does perfectly fit to your wishes and demands. Up to 6 specimens can furthermore be stacked over another.
The Shanghay Chair from Hay consists of birch plywood and oak wood. It is available in different colours.
