The free swinging armchair 400 from Artek is a classic from the Finnish furniture designer. It was created already in the year 1936 by the famous designer and architect Alvar Aalto. The armchair is known as “The Tank” because of its robust look.
Alvar Aalto initially created the tank armchair in the year 1936 for the Milan Triennial and for his private house in Helsinki. With its massive outside and the heavy wooden construction, the chair was Alvar Aalto’s answer to the light steel strapping chairs that Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed for the Tugendhat Villa.
The tank offers high comfort with its soft seat cushion and it radiates quietness and stability with its robust design. The 400 Armchair possesses a birch wood frame. The chair appears with the Nosag-spring and the PU + Dacron-cushion. The back cushion also consists of PU foam and Dacron. The tank can be coated with cloth or leather.
The zebra clothing consists of 56% wool, 39% cotton and 5% polyester.
