The Multichair, which was designed by Joe Colombo in 1971, ranks among the most famous chairs all over the world and can be admired in the permanent exhibitions of the two most-known museums in New York, the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The cushions that are kept together by two leather straps allow numerous combinations, depending on the mood or the occasion. This feature basically distinguishes the Multichair from other chairs or armchairs.
Unlike other inflexible and bulky pieces of furniture, the Multichair can be moved easily and therefore does not even deserve the name “chair”. It can rather be regarded as a enhancement of the human body for calm moments or social contacts that not only adjusts to the body but also to the social situation; either more relaxing or more formal.
But it doesn't matter in what a situation this elegant as well as individual appearance of the premium design by Joe Colombo is used, it will still be extremely appealing. The intelligent solution also proves the excellent design, as well as the texture and manufacturing do - and all this really clear, so that the passant viewer won't miss a detail.
Cesare (named Joe) Colombo was born in Milan on July 30th in 1930. For a couple of years, the autodidact attended the Academy Brera and the Faculty for Architecture at the Politecnico in Milan. Designer Joe Colombo
