The umbrella stand PO/9901 from Jeffrey Bernett is part of the Progetto Oggetto collection by the Italian Company Cappellini.
The uncomplicated design from the umbrella stand finds its origin in small, hollowed stainless steel cuboids, in which umbrellas can be placed. A simple frame out of arched stainless steel completes the minimalist and airy design and holds the umbrellas in position.
Jeffrey Bernett has presented his first collection of furniture and accessories in 1996 in New York. The designs were honoured with the Editor’s Award and were the beginning for the international career of the designer. In the soon afterwards beginning cooperation with Cappellini, the Umbrella Stand PO/9901 emerged.
Because of its simple and bright design, Cappellini included the umbrella stand in the Progetto Oggetto collection in 1999 naming it PO/9901. The unusual name is a sort of series number that identifies the product as part of the Progetto Oggetto collection. The short form PO stands for Progetto Oggetto, the initial two numbers refer to the year of the design, in this case it was 1999.
