Who doesn’t know her, the main figure out of the books of the Australian writer P.L. Travers? At last since the Walt Disney film, where the nanny with the flying characteristics floated with an opened umbrella in the sky, every child knew Mary Poppins.
Whether the flying umbrella from Mary Poppins the design duo Edward and Jay Osgerby offered the inspiration for their umbrella stand is not sure. Sure is: the time of owner-less umbrellas flying around the room has ended, because Poppins offers a safe place for up to six umbrellas.
Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby designed the umbrella stand as triangle so that it fits in every corner but also standing freely in halls, becoming an eye-catcher.
The Italian company Magis produces the simple and functional umbrella stand since 2010 out of colourful glossy ABS plastic. The plastic material is robust and resists every wet umbrella.
The Poppins umbrella stand is available in orange, olive green, white and black.
Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, both born in the year 1969, studied at the Royal College of Art in London and founded the design studio Barber Osgerby in the year 1996. Designer E. Barber & J. Osgerby
