Kvadrat - Ready Made Curtains

Ready Made Curtains by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

A curtain more simple and practical than ever before. Created by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Kvadrat, it is a flexible and simple curtain system that can be individually designed.

The Ready Made Curtain offers everything that makes a good curtain: The individual parts are separately available and also individually combined. If you want to add more color to a room, a red curtain can be hung up on a blue cord, for example. For a more uniform curtain, all elements can be selected in the same color. The Kvadrat Ready Made Curtain can also be cut to size since the fabric does not fray.

Thanks to the configurator, different combinations can be tried before purchasing the individual elements.

The mechanisms of the hanging system were reworked over and over again. The idea was to reach the absolute minimum of required material and skill to put the curtain together. “The goal was to create a new system that enables anyone to hang a quality curtain in record time.” explained Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.

The installation of the Ready Made Curtain is quite simple: The brackets are fixed onto the wall or ceiling and the cable is pulled through and winded to create tension. The cord as a replacement for the traditional curtain rod is an efficient and elegant solution. It can be winded if necessary to maintain the necessary tension for the curtain to hang, and is stretched from one wall to the other in the blink of an eye. The Bouroullec brothers found inspiration in a Japanese book from the 1950s, that contained images of different objects, including a guitar. From this, they studied the tension of strings from musical instruments.

Once the suspension is set up, the pegs can be stuck on and the fabric can be cut to size and hung up. Simply Ready Made.

"In our work with Kvadrat we are always striving to integrate more textile into the design of rooms. The difference between this and previous products is that we have decided not to interfere with the fabric.
The system is very simple, we have used the lightest touch." Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec
