As textiles designer, architect, interior designer and collector, Alexander Girard designed materials and patterns that conform with the most innovative furniture of his time, in a leading position of the textiles department, at the Herman Miller Company from 1952 to 1975. At that time also the design to the January Cushion emerged, this one is produced today by the American manufacturer Maximo after the original design from Alexander Girard.
The design of the January Cushion was designed by Alexander Girard. It consists of 55% linen and 45% cotton. It is completely printed with black, rounded forms on the front and the back.
Alexander Girard counts to the embossing figures of American post-war design together with George Nerlon and Charles and Ray Eames. Girard’s designs are still produced and provided nowadays by companies like Maximo, Herman Miller, Vitra and others. They haven’t lost any of their topicality.
