Unusual, provocative, socio-critical and political is the Gun Floor Lamp that has been designed by Philippe Starck for Flos in the year 2005.

”Complete republics are going mad. Tyrants are our masters. Constructed, manufactured, sold, dreamed, bought and used, weapons are our new icons. Our whole life worth’s as much as a bullet.
The Guns Collection is only a sign of our time. We get the symbols that we worth.” explains the Designer. The inscription on the foot panel of the lamp therefore says “Happiness is a hot gun”.

The Gun Collection should call attention to the worldwide weapons export of numerous governments: the golden colour of the Gun Lamp represents the secret agreements between money and war. Therefore the Lounge Gun, whose body recreates a golden M16-Gun, stands symbolically for the agreement of the west-side. The black lampshade symbolizes the death. The crosses at the interior of the shade should remind us of our dead. Thereby the whole Gun Collection enters the context of a kind of memorial for uncountable dead that have been murdered in numerous, profit oriented wars.

To underline the intentions of the designers, the manufacturer Flos spends twenty percent of the sales revenue from the Guns Collection to the human rights organization Frères des Hommes, Europe.

Details to Flos - Lounge Gun

The Lounge Gun is a floor lamp for direct light (to read) and diffuse illumination. The lamp corpus consists of aluminium die casting, the coating of injection moulding polymer, 18 carat, galvanized matt gold-plated. The diffuser is made out of paper with a matt black plastic coating and a screen printing method gold-plated interior. The electric cable is covered with black fabrics and connected to a black dimmer.
