Artecnica - Icarus pendant lamp

Poetic, lightweight and immaculately white, Icarus reminds us of the human aspiration to flight: a link between us and the celestial light. Constructed from multiple layers of extruded polyester cut to resemble a bird’s wing, Icarus casts an unforgettable silhouette.

The Icarus pendant lamp consists of several layers polyester, these are cut so that they remind us pf the swinging of a bird. If the light shines through Icarus’ middle to the outside, the feathers shine in a delighting silhouette.

The natural, the a swan’s feather reminding design of Icarus was coined by Tord Boontje. He developed the impressing design while he experimented with three-dimension objects that he cut out of paper. The overlapping paper-rests reminded Boontje in their suggested dynamic of birds’ wings. That is the reason why he designed the pendant lamp for Artecnica in the year 2005.

Icarus comes with a conical safety protector. The electrical suspension cord is not included.

Tord Boontje was born in Enschede, Netherlands in 1968. He first studied industrial design at the Design Academy in Eindhoven (1986 - 1991), and followed this with a Masters from the Royal College of Art in London (1992 - 1994). Designer Tord Boontje
