Tradition meets modern functionality!

The Mattias Ståhlbom designed Fisherman lamp, which he designed for the Swedish lamps manufacturer Zero, doesn’t only remind of an ancient fishers tradition, but also revitalises a nostalgic object.

The fisher’s balls that have been used for fishing, served to keep dragnets on the surface – similar to buoys -. These balls were made out of glass initially, but then consisted of much cheaper materials such as plastic, Styrofoam or cork. The partly individually ornamented and out of colored-glass made balls, were not simply thrown away, but became decoration objects and they still ornament numerous fish restaurants and other nautical ambience.

Inspired by such a dragnet-swimming ball, Mattias Ståhlbom designed the Fisherman lamp for Zero.

The surrounding ropes were formed after ancient traditions, by a roping company that produced the dragnets for swimming fisher balls, one by one by hand. Therewith also handicraft tradition meets modern design, also during the manufacturing of the Fisherman lamp.

The spherical diffuser consists of opal-coloured acrylic.

The bulb e27 (max. 53 W) serves as illuminant, or an according energy saving lamp (26-42W). The Fisherman lamp is available with a diameter of 300 mm, 400 mm or 650 mm. The ropes are available in white, orange or in its natural colour.
