The Orson & Natalino porcelain figure comes out of the A di Alessi „Figures“ project, which marks the beginning of the first public appearance of a design-trend in the 1990s. The project is a dialogue with the fascinating world of porcelain figures and especially with the elegant tradition of European made articles of the 18th century, according to the Alessi style and with contemporaneous artists.
The first time when Alessi spoke about the figures was 1991, after the workshop with the trash designers of the East Village in New York in the winter before. After researches about the animated characteristics of the object – that are now connected in a metaproject “Family Follow Fiction” – A di Alessi thought that a potentially creative development might especially be expressed in an existing porcelain figures collection.
The Orson & Natalino figure by A di Alessi is an enlargement of the desired “The Adventures of Natalino” series that also includes the Natalino figure or the Natalino cookies plate.
Laura Polinoro was the leader of the Alessi Study Centre (“CSA”), working as metaproject-designer and Art Director. Alessi entered fields, unknown before, with her. Designer Laura Polinoro (LPWK)
