The two-pieced eggcups were designed by Marianne Brandt in her career at the Bauhaus Dessau around 1926.Like in many of her designs combines the artist here also the three basic shapes circle, cylinder and ball.
The cylinder is fixed on the circle round baseplate. In the cylinder is a removeable hemisphere bonnet, which functions as egg holder. The eggcup convinces through its simplicity and functionality, just like its superior appearance. The geometrical design is typical for the esthetic of living- and kitchen tools of the 20th century and hallmarks the transition of classic handcraft to industrial design, which was caused by the Bauhaus.
Made of shining polished stainless steel, the eggcup appears today still modern and elegant. It stands for the designs of Marianne Brandts in her time as Dessau Bauhaus from 1925 to 1929. The eggcup is produced by the Italian manufacturer Alessi since 1995.
Marianne Brandt was born in 1893 in Chemnitz. She got famous as a metal designer at the Bauhaus, but also was sculptor and painter. Designer Marianne Brandt
