The duck is slim now: Henning Koppel designed a serving pitcher (with the number 1,044) in the year 1952 for the legendary Danish silver smithy Georg Jensen that reminded of a fat duck in its form. Consequently it became popular under the name “the pregnant duck” and was considered an absolute design classic. Koppel was obviously influenced by himself when he shaped the “Pitcher” in 1965 – also if it is slimmer now, what makes it appear even nobler than its idol. The design breathes pure pride.

The Georg Jensen Company revives the chic, initially silver designed piece now in stainless steel, together with other works from the “master of form”. And the pitcher does spectacularly underline this series, which is why the Henning Koppel objects advanced to become the embodiment of Scandinavian post-war design as New Look famous style with their mirror-flat polished surfaces and their asymmetrical lines. Henning Koppel died in 1981 – although his works are still highly up-to-date today.
