Showcases were initially used at typesetting as sorting boxes for letterings in lead-typefacing. By the time print-techniques were developed, many of these typesetting boxes were discarded to serve as storage boxes for collectors and as showcases for expositions of smaller items.
Afterwards appeared many replicas that don’t resemble the purpose they were once made fore, when different Din-standards had strict consequences. Many showcases have a place as decorative small objects in a lot of households.
As presentation box for diverse collector’s objects such as figures, miniatures or toys or to store personal memories such as photos, stones and shells from the past holidays or as exposition case for the special favorite boox, CDs or DVDs…- the usage possibilities are as well versatile as the forms and materials of contemporaneous typecases.
