”As the aluminium specialist Eberhard Fielitz showed processing patterns of aluminium panels, I thought of the pleating techniques from Issey Miyake – the stabile fabrics sculptures! We directly worked with the aluminium bleaches; there is not a single sketch of the stool. A lot of prototypes broke in the beginning, since the material was too thin or broke when it was bent. But the real secret lies in the exact bending of the bleach to multi-skin sheets. The sheets have to be bent to an exact angle of 90°, not 90,1 or 89,9, because they would fall while they are pressed”, described Christoph Böningen about his work at the Alu-Stool.
The Alu-Stool from Christoph Böninger was included in the new collection Munich and won the iF Design Award.
Christoph Böninger studied Industrial Design and Environmental Design in Munich and Los Angeles. In 1982 he designed the first laptop PC in the world as his diploma, which is displayed today in the Neue Sammlung, Munich. Designer Christoph Böninger
