The unusual Allunaggio stool was designed by the designers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Zanotta in 1965. The small seat lies in a wide frame on three slim feet which offer a futuristic and simultaneously down-home appearance to the stool.
The Allunaggio stool has already been awarded with the Compasso d’Oro in 1981 for its spectacular design. The desired prize is only offered to the best Italian designs. The stool is furthermore exposed in numerous collections of design museums all over the world today, among them are the Arts Museum in Zurich, the Centro per l’arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Prato and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
The Allunaggio stool’s feet are made out of steel by Zanotta. The seat possesses an aluminium alloy and is grass green lacquered. The colour fulfils the obtrusive design and makes the stool an eye-catcher in every surrounding. The distinctive feet are made out of polyethylene by Zanotta, so that the below ground remains protected from scratches.
Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002) is of the most influencing designers of the 20th century. Together with his brothers Livio and Giacomo, Achille run a bureau for architecture where they created trend-setting design. Designer Achille Castiglioni
