Zanotta - Sgabillo Max Bill Stool

Sgabillo is the der direct descendant of the famous Ulmer stool, which was designed by Max Bill 1954 for the new College in Ulm. Because money was tight, they created seats for the students. The stool has the benefit that it is easy to carry it around, even though it is very robust, and that it conduces the students as carrier for their documents. In the following years they walked with their seats hrough the college.

The design was catered on the functionality. The rod (originally made of beech, at Zanotta of birch wood) Sgabillo confers extra stability and conduces also as handle.

So it can be used as seat, side table or shelf element, but also as transportation box, serving tray or tabel bonnet. With that the Ulmer stool or Sgabillo is a good example, that destitution sometimes makes oneself creative. Because today the stool is an absolutly design classic.
