What is a children sponsorship?

Plan Logo

The basic thought behind a sponsorship is a personal connection and the direct support of a child in developing countries where life situation and everyday life is very hard. Many large and small non-profit organizations offer sponsorships programs. The sponsor can frequently decide the country or continent he wants to support a godchild from. Generally the organizations work actively in African, Latin and South American countries, in Asia and East Europe.

The first personal contact generally begins within the starting of a sponsorship. The sponsor has the possibility of writing letters, sending small gifts, postcards and photos to his godchild, offering small personal attentions and cares for the child. The godchild will answer the letters talking about its personal surrounding, family, school and the current harvesting for the sponsor to be informed about the life situation and its circumstances. The language will not be a barrier since the organizations offer letter translations. Furthermore the organizations offer planned visits to the godchildren, which are naturally accompanied regarding regional conditions and the child’s protection.

Besides personal contact, the godchild will be supported financially. The sponsor pays a monthly amount (of about 30€ a month) to the organization. Among others, schools and village fountains are built, parents are supported and school education is enabled with the amount. For the sponsor to be sure that his donations arrive, he will receive a report and a current picture every year. The Sponsor will be informed about the development of the village and the child along the year.

A sponsorship can be terminated without stating reasons at any time; the godchild will then be conveyed to a new sponsor.
