Where is Mali?

Mali is a wide country in the west f Africa. The Senegal and the Niger rivers flow through the south. The country is fertile near the rivers and agriculture, cattle breeding and fishing activities are pursued there. However, more than one half of the country is part of the Sahara desert. Continuous flooding and drought periods overwhelm the country because of irregular rainfalls.

The country has 13.3 million inhabitants on an area of 1,240,200 km². In comparison: Germany has 82.1 million inhabitants on an area of 357,030 km² (state: 2011).

The capital is Bamako. The official languages are French and Bambara. Different local languages are spoken in many parts of the country.
