RoyalVKBJan Hoekstra was born in Maastricht, The Netherlands in 1964. Trained as an industrial designer at the University of Genk, Belgium, graduated in 1989. Until 1997 he worked at Flex\theINNOVATIONLAB, a design team in Delft. He was responsible for the design and development of several successful consumer products.
In 1993 Hoekstra joined a team of masters lead by Gijs Bakker (founder of Droog Design) at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. He was supervising design students on a regularly base until 2004.
Since 1997 Hoekstra is working as a designer for Royal van Kempen & Begeer and responsible for product development of BK and Q-linair, popular Dutch cookware brands and the international brand RoyalVKB. Since 2001 he joined the marketing team of multinational UNILEVER as well, designing packaging, premiums and managing branded concepts for (inter)national food brands.
Recently he started his own studio Jan Hoekstra Industrial Design Services in Rotterdam and is currently working on projects for Droog Design.
Several products Hoekstra designed are in permanent collection of Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, MOMA New York and Chicago Museum of Architecture and Design.
