Tomoyuki Matsuoka was in 1970 in Mie / Japan. He studied from 1988 until 1992 at the Japanese University Chiba product design and from 1999 until 2001 at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in Copenhagen.
When Matsuoka is creating, he aims at designing furniture which is in line with the rhythm of nature: simple, beautiful, functional, and comfortable. However, Matsuoka strives towards a modern design which is in time but firstly, his conceptions should be timeless and not belong to any trend. While working, Matsuoka thinks more about the people using and living with his furniture than about the furniture itself.
“For me, the design of furniture is equal to the design of a certain lifestyle of the people.“
The design of the Island Series which Matsuoka created for Blå Station, reflects the different cultural influences. The smooth flowing, round forms and lighting colours of the benches and tables stand for his desire to harmonic natural, functional and timeless design.
