Emeco

The US-American company Emeco (Electric Machine and Equipment Co.) was established on Hanover, Pennsylvania by Witton C. Dinges in the year 1944. Emecos intention was to combine the best material and to prepare it with the best manufacturers. Quality is no contingency, but the conclusion of a long process and the involved workers, is Emecos philosophy.

Emeco products are handmade. Machines are used, but the bigger part is hand and tool made. That is why for a single chair 50 hands get involved and 4 working hours. If the chair has to be polished, 8 additional working hours are required. This makes every chair unique.

Emeco’s chairs are composed of 80% recycled aluminium, what means sustainability. Although the creation isn’t easy: 77 work steps are needed to produce one of Emeco’s chairs. But the result is a high quality chair that also assures great design. The special aluminium is rust-free, extremely light and acutely solid - Emeco’s chairs have an expectancy of life of 150 years.

The special manufacturing of this brand, which is still in use nowadays, was the fruit of co-operation with the ALCOA company (a US-American aluminium factory) in the middle of the 19th century. At this a seaworthy aluminium chair for military purpose was developed, the 1006 Navy chair.

The ALCOA scientists and engineers worked closely with Emeco. The chairs are still being manufactured. The patent-registered process is worldwide only used by Emeco.
