Sowden

Sowden is the eponymous company from the designer George Sowden. After a few years of work for external employers, Georg Sowden finally decided to become a manufacturer himself. He does mainly design useful household products under his name. Partly, the products are characterized by completely new functionality connected with the Sowden-typical handwriting: soft, without edges and corners.

The name possesses high international design reputation. The English George J. Sowden studied architecture in the 1960es. In 1970 he moved to Milan, where he runs his design office still today. As co-founder of the Memphis group around Ettore Sottsas, Matteo Thun, Michael Graves and others, he was not only partly responsible for the design development of the 1980es. Swatch, Olivette, Alessi, Bodum, Moulinex, Pyrex, Tefal, Guzzini are part of his customers-list.

Brunch is the first enjoyment topic for what a whole Sowden production series was developed. Thereby the patented “SoftBrew” technique that makes the coffee brewing procedure uncomplicated, individual, versatile and new, stands in the focus.
