The Hansen Family

Hand made furniture out of homely wood in a new Scandinavian design stylle

The label The Hansen Family is embossed by a strong handicraft character. The designer Gesa Hansen founded The Hansen Family which stands for unique objects which connect handicraft tradition and modern style. She grew up in a family of joiners, designers and architects. She worked for different design studios such as Jean Nouvel and H5 in Paris or NDC in Tokyo after her design studies at the Bauhaus University in Weimar.

Gesa Hansen works as independent designer and as art director in the company of her father Hans Hansen since 2007. Out of the idea of combining family traditions with modern design and the handicraft experience of her family company, emerged The Hansen Family.

The workshop for furniture by The Hansen Family is the same familiar business as for Hans Hansen. The small manufacture based in the Sauerland only uses ecologically washed oak wood which came from the surrounding wood.

The designer Gesa Hansen offered a successful start to her company gaining international remuneration and numerous awards with her Remis Collection. The classic design of the products refers to the Scandinavian roots. Ancient, archived family sketches are combined with the functional demands of contemporaneous times - and with the natural resources and the handicraft tradition create unique objects.
