Pulcina by Alessi is a creation by the architect Michele De Lucchi and a espresso coffee maker for true coffee lovers. The revolutionary design combines technology that illycaffè developed by analysing the dynamics of heat flow with the project experience of Alessi.
Ideal Shape for Perfect Espresso
Pulcina is the result of long research: illycaffè and Alessi wanted to find out how the shape of the coffeepot could be enhanced in order to improve and emphasise the organoleptic properties of espresso. Therefore, they analysed what goes on inside a coffeepot. As a result, Illy was able to determine the ideal shape of the boiler - the lower part of the pot that holds the boiling water - in order to make a perfect espresso.
Only the Best for You
Thanks to the special nature of the inside of the boiler, Pulcina automatically stops filtering the coffee at the right moment. This interruption helps to eliminate the eruption phase, the final filtering stage that generates a burnt and bitter aftertaste. Only the best of the coffee goes into the cup, and its full-bodied and rounded aroma can be tasted.
V-Shape Spout for Drip-Free Pouring
The spout is particularly interesting. Its typical V-shape is reminiscent of a chick’s beak (“pulcino” is Italian for chick). It is specially designed to prevent dripping when pouring. Pulcina is practical, functional, and doesn’t require special skills. Coffee is prepared in the same way as with a traditional espresso coffee maker.
The Pulcina Espresso Maker by Michele De Lucchi for Alessi is made of cast aluminium and is available in different sizes. The handle and the knob are made of polyamide in black or red.
