Apparently, the designer Sabine Schuhmacher of the side by side team wasn’t able to decide which wood to pick - hence, she manufactured two sorts of wood. The result: warm oak wood with bright maple wood. Due to the high content of tannic acid in the oak wood, the cutting boards are naturally anti-bacterial and can be cleaned just like all the other common wooden items in the kitchen. Oiling the wood leads to highlight the special grain of the oak wood.
Despite daily use, the hard oak wood is very durable but just like every other wooden item being in contact with food, it needs a regular cleaning. The high-quality cutting boards are manufactured in the Caritas Wendelstein sheltered workshops in Rosenheim/Raubling.
