Kartio makes the perfect balance between material, strength, but also simple geometric forms and natural colours. The design of Kartio is not bound to a determinate time and its usage is not directed to a determinate person. An essential design such as the one of Kartio is as well functional today as it will be tomorrow.
With its simple and geometric design, the Kartio glasses by Kaj Franck and Iittala out of the year 1958 are recognized design classics today. Again and again it was tried to copy the simple and genius design of Kartio. But all rational geometry didn’t help – the secret is as easy as timeless design and lies in the combination of Kaj Francks experience and his genius:
”If one wants to create a perfect glass, one has to begin with the hand that holds the glass. One has to ask oneself what a glass this hand might want to hold.”
The machine-blown, thin glasses and the mouth blown carafe have a pleasant format to hold, they are stackable, dishwasher safe and available in many colours.
