The Mago Sterlino Figure has its origins in the A di Alessi „Figures“ project, which marks the beginning of the first public appearances of a design direction in the 1990s. The project is a dialogue with the fascinating world of porcelain figures and especially with the elegant tradition of 18th century European articles (entirely in Alessi’s style), as well as with contemporaneous artists.

The first time figures were discussed at Alessi’s was in 1991, after his workshop with the trash designers of the East Village in New York the winter before. Having conducted research into the animistic properties of the object – research which in those years was connected to the “Family Follow Fiction” metaproject – A di Alessi decided that a potential creative development might be best expressed in a collection of porcelain figures.

As a representative of a magical world, The Mago Sterlino Figure by A di Alessi is conceived as a tiny ornamental object with a discreet, symbolic presence, and an inspiring and consoling point of reference.
