Full of soul, humour and handicraft art, the wooden bear is a call out to the playful child in every one of us. With its round nose and fat belly, the cute, robust bear by Kay Bojesen quickly becomes a favourite animal amongst adults and children alike, and is a unique fusion of fantasy figurine and designer object.
Kay Bojesen’s bear is made of oak and maple. The superb craftsmanship and high-quality wood bring generations’ worth of fun. The wooden bear is part of a collection of wooden animals which the designer Kay Bojesen developed between 1935 and 1957. Today the Danish company Rosendahl Design Group manufactures the wooden animals in close cooperation with Kay Bojesen’s family.
Not only in children’s rooms, but also on shelves and in offices, the wooden animals from Kay Bojesen have meanwhile become treasured collector's items that are passed from one generation to another. This is why the animals are meant as a gift idea for anywhere you can live or play:
baptisms, birthdays, confirmations, graduations, weddings, and anniversaries.
Throughout his entire life, Bojesen paid homage to his mantra that great design should be human, warm and vivid: ‘They should be reminiscent of a circus’, he used to say about his works, of which his wooden creatures are amongst the most popular. With his user-friendly and modern design, Kay Bojesen is considered one of the greatest Danish functionalists. In his naive designs, form and object, seriousness and playfulness melt together. At the same time, Bojesen possessed the unique power of waking wood to life, turning his work into international design icons.
