Dear Charlie by Alessi is a banana holder, whose irregular and stylized shape reminds us of a stem with a small branch. Bananas might be hanged at it, in order to store them at a suitable place.
The banana holder by Alessi is a small table sculpture that also serves as holder for different fruits or vegetables such as grapes, a bound of chilly or a garlic bulb with its stable and massive base. But Dear Charlie is also used in a completely different context, for example as tool for hanging objects such as rings, bracelets and earrings.
Bananas stored in a hanging position don’t age as fast as lying, since the banana holder makes the bananas believe they were still hanging at their tree. Alessi’s banana holder was designed by John Truex and it consists of chromed Zamac.
