Film series about industrial design classics
The collection »design« from the Arte edition by absolut Medien tells the story of the 20th century by presenting several industrial buildings and links the art of designing to its sociological context.
Each product shaped its time and is not just a reflection of its era, but also an anticipation of future developments.
DESIGN by absolut Medien is a film series created by Luciano Rigolini. It presents industrial objects and buildings and on this basis it tells the history of the 20th century. The focus is especially on objects which constitute aesthetic and technological innovations, reflect their respective era while at the same time being ahead of their time. That way, the art of designing is linked to its respective sociological context. Archive material, analytical studies, plans and sketches provide the basis for the film series.
Products that reflected the spirit of their time
Each of the five DVDs present six products, each of which reflected the spirit of their respective age and combined successful design with innovative thinking.
For example, the Citroën DS 19 - "The goddess": In October 1955, Citroën introduced its DS 19 at the Parisian Motor Show. The design was remarkably bold for its day and Citroën was a good ten years ahead of its international competition. According to Roland Barthes, innovative technology and avant-garde aesthetics were a turning point in the mythology of the automobile.
