Film series about industrial design classics
The collection »design« from the Arte edition by absolut Medien tells the story of the 20th century by presenting several industrial buildings and combines the art of designing with its sociological context. Each product has shaped its time and does not only reflects this, but anticipates also future developments.
DESIGN by absolut Medien is a film series created by Luciano Rigolini. It presents industrial objects and buildings and based on this tells the history of the 20th century. In the focus are especially objects that were aesthetic and technological innovations, that reflected their time and at the same time were ahead of their time. Thus, the art of designing is connected to the respective sociological context. Archive material, analytical studies, plans and sketches provide the basis for the film series.
Products that met the spirit of the age
Each of the five DVDs present six products that met the spirit of the age and linked successful design with innovative thinking. For example, the Citroën DS 19 - "The goddess": In October 1955, Citroën introduced its DS 19 at the Parisian Motor Show. With its bold construction, they were over ten years ahead of the international competition. According to Roland Barthes, innovative technology and avant-garde aesthetics provided for a turning point in the mythology of the automobile.
