“Hello, my name is HAL”, is what the onboard computer said in the space shuttle Discovery. As intelligent being, HAL is emphatic and recognizes people’s will.
The British designer Jasper Morrison made the Supercomputer out of Stanley Kubrick’s classic “2001: A Space Odyssey” the name-giver of his chair with an eyewink. As well as its cineaste idol, HAL is characterized by his helpful soul. But not as his name-giver of the film, the humans will remain protected and safe in this case. The chair is prepared for new situations flexibly and recognizes new demands, in order to react carefully.
“Usually, special is less usable than normal”, said Jasper Morrison about a design that isn’t extraordinary, but “supernormal”, displayed in the HAL, integrating in the rules of every day- The seat of the chair allows the most different seating positions, offers movement to the user as well as high comfort, and supports the dynamism of seating as well as a friendly helper.
