Bed sofa combination
The Zurich architect Michael Mettler came unexpected to his creation, the bed system "maude”. Commissioned by a friend with the planning of a double bed, he decided at first to lengthen the piece of furniture on both sides, to override the less attractive proportions of popular mattresses. So the piece of furniture gets harmonic aspect ratios of 2:3 and 3:4.

Searching balanced measures, protagonists of modern bedrooms came together with the bed and became one in “maude”. The head- and foot-ends change from movable shelf boards to book shelves, night stands or storing places for all kinds of little things, which we like to have near our bed. If the shelf board is upright, back cushions can be placed in a dent - for a breakfast in bed also at the opposed side.
The focus in the construction and material-realization by “maude” was abstinence and simplicity. The material choice met coated casing plywood. The 2 centimeters wood sheet with its unbreakable surface offers a contrast of edge and area.
The material is processed with millimetre accuracy in a Swiss joinery on CNC-machines. The strong connections of the robust frames are grooved and glued. Thanks to the eccentric screw and shelf board bows, the assembly and the modification of “maude” occurs fast and easy, only with help of a screwdriver and a rubber hammer.
Please note, that the overlay, pillows, and covers are not included in the delivery package, but can be ordered separately.
Furthermore it is important to note the height of the bed's content: Mattress and slatted frame shouldn't be higher than 22 cm together.
