The Eames Plastic Side Chair is the contemporary production of the legendary Fiberglass Chair. It was created in collaboration with Zenith Plastics for the Museum of Modern Art's "Low Cost Furniture Design" competition and was the first industrially manufactured plastic chair.
Thus the Eames chair is more than just a piece of furniture - it is a piece of cultural history. The multifunctional chair can be used in many different ways with different seat shells and underframes. A real all-rounder in the living and object area.
The organically shaped seat shell is connected to the metal base via integrated shock mounts. This ensures relaxed and comfortable sitting even over long periods of time. Whether in private areas, restaurants, waiting areas, offices, conference rooms or large halls, the Eames Plastic Side Chair DSX (Dining Height Side Chair X-Base) fits into a wide variety of environments.
Classic shape - new seat height
The Eames Plastic Sidechair can be individually combined with a variety of seat shells, underframes, cushions and colours. The classic shape of the chairs remains untouched. Since 2015, however, Vitra has been producing the underframes of the Eames chairs with a new seat height of 43 cm. This is Vitra's reaction to the increase in average body size since the 1950s. With the new underframe heights, the Eames Plastic Sidechair DSX offers maximum seating comfort.
Due to the small difference in height, however, the chairs can easily be combined with the new models at the classic height, so that existing seating groups can also be supplemented with new chairs.
