The Plastic Armchairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1950 were first presented at a competition “Low Cost Furniture Design” at the Museum of Modern Arts in New York. The organically shaped plastic seat was later combined with different frames and produced by the millions. The Armchairs in their current polypropylene version have once more improved their level of comfort.
Classic shape - many editions
Vitra has the Eames Plastic Armchair (DAR) (Dining Height Armchair Rod Base) in many different editions, colours and with different frames. This is how the chair can be put together as you would like it.
The frame has been available with a height of 43 cm since 2015 to suit the current average height. It isn’t a problem to mix “old” and “new” chair editions due to the small difference in height, so that existing groups of chairs can be easily extended.
The plastic side chairs and armchairs with their low-key polypropylene seat shell shape and the filigree frame are absolute classics for living rooms The classic is to be found everywhere, not only in living rooms but also in universities, waiting rooms, cafés and other facilities.
Please note: The Eames Plastic Armchair DAR is normally delivered with dark felt pads. Should you prefer plastic pads you can enter your preference in the selection field or in the comments field.
