“Hello, my name is HAL”, is what the on-board computer said on the Discovery space shuttle. As an intelligent being, HAL is able to put itself in people’s situation, recognizing their wills.
The British designer Jasper Morrison made the super computer out of Stanley Kubrick’s classic “2001: Space Odyssey” the name-lender for his chair with an eye-wink.
HAL is characterized by its helpful soul, as well as his cineaste idol. But contrasting the original Hal, this one remains sympathetic to humans in every situation. The chair flexibly adapts to new situations and calculates new demands, to react to them carefully.
“Usually, special is less usable than normal”, said Jasper Morrison about a design that isn’t extraordinary, but “supernormal”, displayed in the HAL, integrating in the rules of every day- The seat of the chair allows the most different seating positions, offers movement to the user as well as high comfort, and supports the dynamism of seating as well as a friendly helper.
Also the HAL Cantilever is a member of the HAL family. This means that this chair also possesses a seat coating which is fixed at the seat’s backrest and seat with two tabs. This is ideal to clean it or to vary the colour.
The frame and armrests consist of chrome-plated steel tube.
Its robust construction ensures a long life to the Cantilever and it fulfills relevant safety norms at the same time. It is easy to clean and finally also cleanly separable and recyclable.
