Wooden folding stool with square seat
Royal is a folding stool from Skagerak with a majestic posture. A simple, functional stool in oak or teak with a square seat that folds into one another for practical and space-saving storage. The designer and artist Jens Quistgaard is said to have been inspired by the Roman Empire when designing the stool; hence the royal attitude and name.
Jens Quistgaard (1919-2008) was an excellent designer. In the course of his career, he designed models that became synonymous with Scandinavian Modernism in the 1950s and 1960s. As a boy he was very interested in drawing and ceramics and as a teenager he was trained as a sculptor in his father's workshop. Later he became an apprentice at Georg Jensen and developed from a draughtsman and relief maker to a sculptor.
