The Kastehelmi Votive tealight holders from Iittala, first introduced in 1964, are now legendary. At that time they were still a real revolution in glass production, but in the meantime they have matured into classics.
The Kastehelmi Votives by Iittala combine two elements: water and fire. The word Kastehelmi means dewdrop in Finnish. The hot flame and the cool dew drops create wonderful reflections that emanate from this mood light. Thus the Kastehelmi Votive lanterns became already earlier one of the most successful series of Iittala, until 1988 the production was stopped.
In the 1960s, Oiva Toikka tried to find a method to hide the seams on pressed glass. So he had the idea to place small glass drops on the seams. His experiment developed into a completely new design, which was reissued by Iittala. The Kastehelmi Votives by Oiva Toikka are available in many atmospheric colours.
