The Aalto vase - purely natural. While many European designers glorified the revolution of machines, their Scandinavian colleagues paid more attention to nature. Alvar Aalto became one of the trendsetter, creating organic forms like those of the Savoy Vase. His vase is now world-famous. The same natural forms reappear in all of this work: in the wave-formed walls of the Finnish pavilion for the Universal Exhibition in New York in 1939, in the architecture of the Düsseldorf theatre, in chairs, Spanish walls and tea-trolleys.
Aalto was convinced that design should be human even in the smallest details. Upon Iittala's request, Alvar Aalto created the Aalto-Vase in different forms, sizes and colours for the world-exposition in Paris in 1937. Alvar Aalto was the son of a cartographer, therefore some think that the forms of the vases are copied from Finnish landscapes and lakes.
The Aalto Vase, also known as the Savoy Vase, is a world-famous piece of glassware that is synonym for Finnish glass art and its manufacturer Iittala. The Savoy Vase from Alvar Aalto is exhibited in the most important design museums of the world and available in different colours and sizes.
