Tanssi (the Finnish word for “dance”) is a visual continuation of the magical world created by the artist Klaus Haapaniemi for Iittala. In a similar way to the popular Taika series by Klaus Haapaniemi, the products from the Tanssi series also impress with fanciful and colourful motifs reminiscent of a magical forest’s inhabitants.
Haapaniemi was inspired by the Czech opera “The Cunning Little Vixen”, which is a sad yet beautiful story about the coexistence of animals and humans and the eternal circle of life.
The Cunning Little Vixen (originally Příhody lišky Bystroušky) is an opera by Czech composer Leoš Janáček. The opera was created between 1921 and 1923 and is based on a novella by Rudolf Těsnohlídek. It premiered in November 1924 and the Helsinki opera performed the piece again in 2015. Who else but Klaus Haapaniemi was involved in the visual design of the opera.
Although different from earlier patterns such as Taika, Korento or Satumetsä, Tanssi nevertheless again emphasises the striking and highly detailed style of Klaus Haapaniemi. The pattern tells its own story and enriches everyday life with cultural references and a hint of nostalgia.
The tea towel from the Tanssi series enriches the kitchen with a high-quality textile, which, thanks to its pattern, not only matches the tableware series and other Tanssi products perfectly, but also sets individual, fanciful accents.
