Iittala’s new dish series Taika is magical and brings back memories that were long forgotten.

The very decorative design of the service collection was designed by design newcomer Klaus Haapaniemi. Initially, the pattern was created to adorn the Aika Iittala series by Heikki Orvola, but the result was so impressive that, without further ado, it was decided to bring a new series of dishes to life.

The colourful style of the Taika series surprises those that think of Iittala as the embodiment of traditional, Nordic functionality and plain design.

And in fact, Taika is different: When I was little, I loved to watch the little mole of Czech artist Zdeněk Miler and many other Eastern European and Russian animation films. I still like the handmade style of these animations today, designer Haapaniemi explains. Precisely this handmade style is obviously noticeable in the pattern of the Taika series.

Taika offers a whole new facet to the usual Iittala assortment, but still accounts for the well-known mix & match principle that stands for the complete freedom of combination of all Iittala products.

The blue Taika dishes are made of high-quality porcelain and are microwave-proof, freezer-proof, oven-safe and dishwasher-safe.
