The two-piece eggcups were designed by Marianne Brandt in her career at the Bauhaus Dessau around 1926.

As in many of her designs, the artist also unites the three base shapes of the circle, cylinder, and ball here. The cylinder is placed on a circular base plate. A removable semicircle attachment sits in the cylinder, functioning as a carrier for the egg. The eggcup captivates with its simplicity and functionality, just like its superior appearance.

The geometrical design is typical for the aesthetics of house and kitchen tools of the 20th century and marks the transition from classic handcraft to industrial design, which was mainly determined by Bauhaus. Made of shining polished stainless steel, the eggcup still appears modern and elegant today. It stands for the designs of Marianne Brandts in her time at Dessau Bauhaus from 1925 to 1929. Since 1995, the eggcup has been produced by the Italian manufacturer Alessi according to its original design.
