LED Battery Table Lamp
My New Flame by Ingo Maurer is a “table candle” which will never burn down. At the top of a slim, black tube there seems to be a flame. Getting closer to it, there are 128 small LEDs recognizable, and a bit further away, in dark rooms they seem to become a real flame. The colour of the light and the clever coding of the LEDs make up a very realistic appearance. The two “displays” spread light like a conventional candle does. The circuit is viewable on the tube, acting like a mysterious ornament.
My New Flame is elegantly inserted in living room arrangements; it is suitable as candle on pretty served tables as well as night light for all of those that prefer to sleep with a small light on. Coming out of a bag, spontaneous candlelight dinners embellish your evenings, whether near a sea, on the car or in hotel rooms with ugly lights.
The astonishing connection of high technology and poetic expressions is an idea by Moritz Waldmeyer, who created several LED light projects for architects and designers such as Ron Arad and Zaha Hadid as well as for some pop stars in the past years. The studio Waldmeyer (London) “translated” the filmed movements of a flame in the pixels screen of 128 LEDs, adjusting their “My New Flame” lamp.
Ingo Maurer and Moritz Waldemeyer presented “Candles in the Wind”, an object of 100 suspended “candles” and prototypes of My New Flame during the Salone del Mobile 2012 in Spazio Krizia, Milan. The installation has been displayed in the Ingo Maurer New York showroom Making Light since May 2012 and it attracted a lot of attention.
