The Canned Light by Ingo Maurer transforms the famous American soup can into a pendant lamp. The Campbell’s Tomato Soup can, which is also well-known through Andy Warhol’s paintings, becomes a fluorescent lampshade thanks to Ingo Maurer.

The idea for the Canned Light design was come up with by Christoph Matthias and Hagen Sczech in 2003. The Canned Light comes as a soup can that, instead of being filled with food, comes with a bulb, reflector, socket, cable and switch. If the can is opened, you’ll hold the assembly material in your hands.

After assembly, the Canned Light’s height is freely adjustable thanks to the pulley and ring. The cable has a 200 cm length. The lamp is made of a soup can, aluminium, stainless steel and plastic.

The light from the Canned Light is emitted downwards from inside the can. To operate the pendant lamp, Ingo Maurer recommends a halogen G9 bulb, max. 60W, 230/125V.
