The PH 5 pendant light is a member of the PH3-shade family. The PH3 shade system was initially a pendant light fitting, but fast developed into other varieties of lights, such as table, floor, and wall lamps and in a large variety of chandeliers. As a result of the different sizes, materials, surfaces and light sources, thousands of versions emerged over the years. .
The PH 5 and its youngest sibling the PH 50 can be hanged low over a table. They are composed of three white shades and one cone all held together by three braces. The two smaller, coloured shades improve the spectral component of the light, hardly visible to the eye. The red lacquered cone-interior, that also stayed the same as the PH 50 model, is responsible for the warm light tone. The visible reflectors create the horizontal and vertical light, whilst the sand-shone glass at the bottom of the shade diffuses it.
The design, that hasn't lost any of its charm over the last 50 years, speaks for itself. The combination of its three-shade light with its four-shade light qualifies the PH 5 today as one of the best examples of absolute glare-free lighting.
