One of the most popular lamps from Poul Hennigsen is the PH 5 pendant lamp. Because of the 50th birthday of the PH5, Louis Poulsen brought the lamp to the market in five new colours as PH 50, as birthday edition in the year 2008. She sets new accents without changing Henningsens light concept. The important change (besides the colour): with a matt surface of the PH 5, the PH 50 models are manufactured with high gloss colours.
The PH 50 pendant lamp is a member of the PH3-shade-products family. The PH3-shades-system was a pendant lamp solution in its beginnings, but did fast develop to other lamp-sorts for tables, floors, walls and a wide number of chandeliers. The result of the different sizes, materials, surfaces and light sources, several thousands of models developed along the years.
The HP 5 and her younger siblings can be suspended low over the table. They are composed by three white shades and a cone on three purple frame members. Two smaller, coloured shades improve the spectrum part of the light which is hardly perceptible. The red lacquered cone interior which also survived in the PH 50 edition, creates a warm light tone. The design of the viewable reflector ensures vertical as well as horizontal light. The light is diffuse by a sandblasted glass in the lower shade.
Design which hasn't lost any of its contemporaneousness after 50 years of existence. The combination of its three-shades and four-shades lamps make Henningsens PH 5 and PH 50 to some of the best examples for absolute glare-free illumination today. Also in our blog:
